After a couple of days in the sleepy town of Colonia de Sacramento it was time to set off by bus to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. The opportunity for street photography in this beautiful city was heightened by the sun drenched pedestrian street and the animated people we often associate with latin culture. Not for a moment did my camera sit idle around my neck as my eye was in constant motion with my trigger finger following it’s lead. With a whirlwind of snapping I was able to satisfy my photographic hunger with ease.
It all began on the Peatonal Sarandi, with stark contrasts between the bright sun and heavy shadows. The pedestrian street was lined with stores, restaurants and coffee shops. Life in this beautiful temperate climate spilled outside, with locals setting up their merchandise or simply relaxing in the warmth of the day. The vibrant Peatonal Sarandi would flush its travelers out and into the Plaza Independencia, with its looming statue of General José Gervasio Artigas, and below it his mausoleum. I am not going to regale you with stories of the General and the history of Montevideo, which we indeed heard from our wonderful guide on the Curioso Free Tour; that’s what wikitravel is for. Instead, I’m going to share the images that tell their own story of this wonderful city. Relax and enjoy a tour of beautiful Montevideo.
Love the photos. “Night rider” was my favourite
